Professor Sławomir Wiak, DSc, PhD, MEng, is a distinguished Polish scientist in electrical engineering and computer science, specializing in numerical methods, artificial intelligence (including VR/AR), 5G technologies, MEMS, mechatronic systems, and engineering software, and is the author or co-author of over 430 scientific publications, including 19 monographs and textbooks. He has held numerous senior academic leadership positions at Lodz University of Technology, including Rector (2016–2020), Vice Rector (2012–2016), Dean, and founder and long-term Director of the Institute of Mechatronics and Information Systems, while also leading the 5G University Competence Centre. His international academic engagement includes long-term appointments as Visiting Professor at the University of Pavia and Université d’Artois, along with over 40 invited lectures worldwide and extensive collaboration with leading universities and research institutions across Europe. His scientific impact is further reflected in more than 620 expert reviews of journal papers, doctoral and habilitation theses, books, grants, and professorial nominations, as well as supervision of PhD candidates and promotion of honorary doctorates for prominent global figures. He has chaired over 120 international conference sessions, served on 19 international steering committees, and acted as editor for special issues in recognized journals such as SENSORS, ELECTRONICS, and COMPEL. As a principal investigator and manager, he has contributed to 21 national and international research projects, and co-authored recent influential monographs on MEMS, optimal design, and advanced materials. Professor Wiak has also played a significant advisory role in national and European science policy, including expert groups of the European University Association and multiple governmental and regional boards in Poland. His achievements have been recognized with numerous prestigious honors, including the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, awarded by the President of Poland for outstanding contributions to science, education, and organizational leadership.
